Desktop Notifications Without the Noise
Telegram Desktop can notify on every group message. A few mute rules make it usable next to email.
Mute by Default, Unmute Exceptions
Right-click a noisy group → Mute. Keep notifications on for people you report to and for saved messages. Folders help separate Work / Personal on newer Desktop builds.
Mentions Still Matter
Most mute options still surface @mentions and replies. Confirm that in the mute dialog so you do not miss a direct ask.
System Notification Settings
Windows and macOS can swallow Telegram toasts if Focus Assist / Do Not Disturb is on. Check OS notification permissions if Desktop looks silent.
Web vs Desktop
Browser notifications depend on the site permission for web.telegram.org. If you use both clients, disable one source of toasts to avoid doubles.
