Channels vs Groups: Which One to Use
Channels broadcast. Groups discuss. Mixing the two is the most common setup mistake for new community managers.
Use a Channel When
You need one-way announcements: product notes, class schedules, or a newsletter. Subscribers do not chat in the channel itself unless you attach a discussion group.
Use a Group When
People must reply to each other: a project team, a study circle, or customer office hours. Groups support admins, slow mode, and topics on newer clients.
Keep Work and Personal Separate
Create a dedicated work account or at least a dedicated folder. Pin the official channel and mute noisy groups so Desktop stays readable.
Public Links
Public t.me links are convenient and also crawlable. For a private team, prefer invite links you can revoke, and review administrators twice a year.
